Difficult for the Spanish FA - when the news leaked that their man was going they were losers whichever way they went: ignore it and look powerless, rebuke him and fall out during the WC, or kick him out. Any of the 3 would harm their WC camp so no reason to shy away from what they thought best.

Russia with a professional performance but look like they’ll struggle against better opposition.

With the group stages now coming to an end (bet Spain gave a few of you a wee palpitation yesterday, eh?!) I'll soon have the first round points up - then it's time to get on your big boy/girl pants for THE KNOCK OUT STAGES. Keep your eyes peeled, troops. 8-)
