Squad for next season

Squad for next season

Postby Forrest » Mon Jul 21, 2014 11:45 am

Beginning to take shape, and I'm quite excited about the season to come. Lots of options up front now with Carrick, Oliver, Sow, El Hassnoui and Keatings - hope noone gets disillusioned with lack of game time.

I don't see a huge number of goals coming from our midfielders, so we'll need to hope that they step up to the mark and create plenty of chances. I've not seen any of the pre-season friendlies, so maybe it already is working out like that (though I think Buaben scored v East Fife).

Carricks goal v Bucharest came after a screamer from Walker came back of the post
Gomis, Buaban, Holt, King all had a go at one time or another.

We could also have the bonus that Ozturk likes to take free kicks and has a blaster of a shot :D

I still feel we're a little light in defence but i might be wrong.

Current defenders - Paterson, Wilson, Ozturk, McHattie, McKay, McGhee

Midfield - Holt, Robinson, Bauben, Gomis, Nicholson, Smith, Walker

Forwards - Carrick, Keatings, Sow, El Hassnoui, Oliver

I probably missed someone (or 2) but say for example that both Wilson and Ozturk were injured, we'd have a very inexperienced center half pairing to replace them with.

Or, as Jim might think more likely, suspended! You're right that Mackay & McGhee would be an inexperienced pairing, but sometimes needs must. There is some flexibility in that McGhee can cover RB and Wilson can cover LB.

I left them off deliberately as i was thinking we're more tight in defence. But just to be completely right

Goalies- Alexander, Gallacher, Hamilton

And yes - i forgot King too :)

There's going to come a point where injuries and suspensions have us one-again with an inexperienced first team, but at least this season we have 8-ish senior players rather than three. Plus all those lads have had one full season in the SPL, and they showed by the end of the year they had learned a few (painful) lessons. Lets keep 'em crossed it all comes together from this Saturday.

A lot of the young lads have also hit the gym and bulked up quite a bit

Paterson, Walker, and Carrick the most obvious

Every team in the division - well maybe not the hun - will have spells when they're light in some areas of the pitch. We've just come from financial difficulties, a big squad which aims to double up in every position is one of the reasons we were in the mess! The squad's OK, and the young lads have earned their go at not seeing some old pro brought in to sit in front of them in the pecking order.

...dream on...
