I find this situation to be totally unacceptable.

What must it be like to have to work in these conditions, both for the kids and for staff?

Outrageous. ... d-42292771

I disagree, Jim and not because I used to be a teacher.

While the case you highlight is appalling and should have never happened, I think the case in Hawick is worse.

A school is a community in itself and an incident like this will not only impact on the reputation of the school for months to come but will follow it around for years to come.

More importantly, in my view, staff morale will be at rock bottom, there'll be a major mistrust of the senior leadership team and the everyday workings of the place will be frought with tensions. It goes without saying that the kids will pick up on this, as they're normally very perceptive - a lot more perceptive than many adults give them credit for.

Some kids will feel really anxious about the whole situation while others will perhaps be more challenging in their behaviour given that they've seen some of their peers being allowed to push things past the line.
